A symphony of species

Ash Ash

A favourite for individuals who prefer a pronounced open-grain pattern similar to oak. Ash can be stained to resemble oak if desired.
Colour: Sapwood is light creamy white; heartwood is light to dark brown.
Physical Properties: Strong, heavy, hard and high in shock-resistance.

Birch Birch

Uniform texture with a straight-grained modern appeal makes this species a popular choice for contemporary style homes.
Colour: The sapwood generally has a clean white colour, while the heartwood is light to dark brown.
Physical Properties: Hard, strong and resistant to shock. Less than average dimensional stability makes humidity control in your home an important factor to ensure years of top performance.

Cherry Cherry

Elegant, prestigious and stately. The presence of cherry in a home or office setting imparts feelings of elegance and exclusivity.
Colour: Highly praised heartwood varies from rich/deep red to reddish brown. Sapwood is white to light yellowish cream.
Physical Properties: very stable, medium to low shock-resistance
.

Maple Hard Maple

A versatile species with a subtle grain pattern that suits almost every decor.
Colour: Famous for its ivory white sapwood and contrasting shades of brown heartwood.
Physical Properties: Heavy, strong and stiff. Resists shock and marring.

Hickory Hickory

Hickory has both coarse-textured and fine grain patterns combined.
Colour: A diverse combination of bright white sapwood (with hints of fine brown lines) and pale to rich reddish brown heartwood.
Physical Properties: Extremely tough and resilient, the hardest North American wood. A popular choice for high traffic applications.

Red oak Red Oak

A traditional wood flooring species with a porous textured open grain appearance.
Colour: Light pink to dark reddish brown.
Physical Properties: A hard and dense wood with very good dimensional stability.

Pine Red Pine

Highly figured grain pattern that adds an element of warmth and ambience to the home or cottage.
Colour: Reddish to pale brown heartwood with tan to yellowish white sapwood.
Physical Properties: Great dimension stability and machining qualities but not as resistant to scuffs and dents as hardwood species. Any nicks or dents that develop over time from normal use as flooring will add character and patina and will in no way shorten the lifespan of the floor.

Walnut Walnut

Generally straight grained, but sometimes has a wavy or curly grain that produces an attractive appearance.
Colour: Highly praised heartwood is light brown to dark chocolate brown. Sapwood of walnut is creamy white to tan.
Physical Properties: Walnut has good dimensional stability and medium to low shock-resistance.

White oak White Oak

A very popular choice for wood flooring with a medium to coarse texture and an open grain appearance.
Colour: Sapwood is light-coloured and the heartwood is light to dark brown.
Physical Properties: A hard and heavy wood with great wear-resistance.

Blending the right color with the wood species and grade you choose is where your hardwood floor really comes to life. Since no two homes are alike, Hardwood Floor Gallery is proud to offer a wide range of different color options.
